Hi guys!

I was officially awarded my Girl Scout Gold Award in January 2013.  In the March of 2013, I attended the council-wide Girl Scout Gold Award Ceremony and walked with over a hundred other girls who achieved this ultimate award in Girl Scouting. I also received one of 10 Gold Award scholarships for the council.

I am now a freshman at the Georgia Institute of Technology.  I have heard from everyone back home that the school is using the greenhouse for the life sciences units in multiple grades.  I am really excited that we finished such a huge project and that it is going well.

I could not have done any of this without my wonderful volunteers and sponsors--thanks to every one of you.  We managed to do something really incredible and I am very thankful for everybody's help.

As always, please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any comments or questions.  I have been approached by a couple of troop leaders who have wanted me to share my story with girls who are either looking to get their Gold Award or who need motivation to stay involved.  In any case, my contact information is:

We have a complete greenhouse, finally!  Pictures of the completed greenhouse can be seen in the gallery.  On November 17th, the walls were completed, shelves were installed, and pea gravel was put down as the floor.  The greenhouse is officially ready for use!

I want to thank everyone who helped with the project!  I could not have done it without all of your support.

As of this August, we have most of a greenhouse!  If you look at the pictures in the gallery, you will see that we have a near-completed greenhouse--all that it's missing is one wall of bottles.  To remedy this, we will be having a volunteer work day on November 17th at 1:00 pm at Brighten Academy.

Thanks to everyone who helped with the project!  It would not have happened without the gracious support of the community.

As always, email me with all questions or comments.  Thank you!

Edit: The time for the work day has been changed from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday, the 17th.

The greenhouse is starting to look like something, thanks to all the volunteers who came out to help this morning!  We filled in the entire right wall, most of the back wall, and had to stop while working on the front wall because it began raining and we ran out of wire.  Check out the gallery for pictures of the half-completed greenhouse.

We are going to have a final work day on Saturday, August 25th, to fill in what is left of the front and back wall, as well as to install the roof.  If you would like to come help out, please RSVP at plastichouse2012@gmail.com.  As always, feel free to email me with any questions or comments regarding the project.

Hi Everyone,

I am rescheduling the workday originally planned for this Saturday, August 11th.  Due to a family emergency, we were unable to make as much progress as I had hoped and are catching up this weekend.  We will hold the bottle installation work day next Saturday, August 18th, instead.  If you would like to join us, please RSVP so I can prepare ahead of time.  As always, please feel free to email me if you have any comments or concerns.

On another note, we are doing well in bottle collection!  Thanks to some of our dedicated community members, the bottle collection is going strong! In addition, we completed cementing all five corners this past Sunday, thanks to a wonderful family friend.  A few pictures have been added to the gallery, and even more are coming soon.

I would also like to thank everyone who has taken interest in the project so far, none of this could have happened without support and encouragement from community members like you.

Hi again, everyone!

It's been a while since I've posted on the blog, apologies for the delay!  Since my last post, we cut most of the bottles on our July 15th workday, in preparation for putting them into the frame of the greenhouse.  We cut about 300 bottles, and have about 50 more waiting to be cut in the bathtub.

We are not going to have a workday this Saturday, the 4th, because during this time we will be building the frame of the greenhouse.  However, we will have a workday on the 11th to install the bottles and wire.  Hopefully I'll see some of my readers there!

As always, thanks for supporting the project and please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Post 7--Volunteer work day #1

The work day was great!  I had 7 volunteers come out to help, and we got the entire foundation done, despite speculation about lack of dirt.

Thanks to the Peltier family, Ms. Kelly Bemus, and the Harrisons for coming out this morning.  And an even bigger thanks to Nature's Supply Center  for their donations and the Douglas Boulevard Lowe's for discounting the materials.

Edit:  I added a gallery of the work that's been done so far, everyone should check it out.
